Huh?
Where does the fascination TikTok come from? What do these blobs indicate about my target audience? How do fonts even work? If you ever found yourself in the position of having no clue, you might be happy to let somebody else deal with that.
Anything and everything about media is my jam and I am happy to serve it on a freshly buttered bread.
Example 1: Social Media
You can see three examples on this page, each covering a different topic. For this project, a non-profit organisation approached me for advice on expanding their media presence to include social media. As the Board of Directors had limited prior experience, the process began with a structured introduction to the major platforms, covering content formats, production effort, primary functions and user demographics.
By relating these factors to the organisation's internal cacpacities and target audience, I developed a set of recommendations. Following a presentation to the board, I provided a consolidated overview of all relevant findings, enabling them to make an informed decision in their subsequent meeting.
Example 2: Typography
During apprenticeship, we were assigned to write a term paper on typography within a timeframe of only ten days, working in groups of two. Based on the German typeface classification DIN 16518, each group was assigned a specific typeface category to analyse.
The paper covered classification and analysis of the assigned typeface, comparisons with other fonts, historical context, principles of readability, anatomical features of letterforms, hot metal typesetting and practical applications.
Due to a lack of clarity within our assigned category, the antiqua variants, we extended the scope to include a critical reflection on the DIN 16518 itself. Our selected typeface, Graphique by Hermann Eidenbenz, proved particularly difficult to classify because of ambiguous category definitions. This initial challenge led us to identify further inconsistencies within the system.
Despite these issues, the project provided valuable insights, which we applied directly in the creation of a booklet, from which selected pages are shown on this page.
Example 3: Branding
Also during apprenticeship, we were assigned to write a practical term paper about corporate identity based on the Berufskolleg West. The paper was to be done in groups of five due to a short time limit of just two weeks. Contents of the paper were a rebriefing, situation analysis, target audience analysis, objective definition, market strategy, corporate culture, corporate behaviour, corporate communication and corporate design – exemplified by various media.
Though not the initial objective of the papers, our concept was very positiviely received and decided to be made a reality. Consequently, my group was offered to continue working for them, which I accepted alongside one other group member. You can find more on that here.
